Ichalkaranji is known as the ‘Manchester city’ of Maharashtra. It is famous for textile Industries. In this City there are only two classes – economically lower class and economically upper class. There was no facility of providing higher education in B.A. degree and M.A. post degree course especially to the economically weaker students in this city. On the other hand, degree or diploma level education in Science, Computer, Engineering and other professional courses are not affordable to these students. It was necessary to provide such students the facility of degree and post degree level education in low cost with the necessary flexibility. With this intention, the Jayawantrao Awale Education Propagatory Board, Ichalkaranji has started Jayawant Mahavidyalaya in Ichalkaranji city.
